"Sheninger′s book is well-written and cites specific, timely researched data regarding our students′ use of technology. It would behoove us as professional educators and life-long learners to take heed of the shift that has already happened within the walls of our schools. Our students crave real-time learning at their fingertips and flexible, collaborative spaces for doing so." (The Essential Prinicipal Blog)
"I have to admit that I was hesitant to read Digital Leadership by Eric Sheninger, as the word "fluff" is what usually comes to mind when I think of books related to educational technology. To find the most current information, it would seem more practical to search blogs, website articles, Twitter, etc. Nevertheless, this book is anything but fluff, and it certainly is up to date. Sheninger, a former high school principal who has emerged as a thought leader in this age of digital leadership, has written a book that can serve as inspiration and an effective starting point for administrators and/or teachers who have realized that they must either infuse their practice with more progressive techniques, or entirely revamp their work to provide students with more contemporary and relevant learning experiences. Sheninger′s work is valuable because he writes with a tone that is confident, passionate, and convincing. After reading this book, it would be difficult for anyone to argue, ′He′s completely wrong,′ or ′This wouldn′t work in our district.′" (Ross Cooper, Supervisor of Instructional Practice K-12)

A must-read for school administrators!
By Mr. P
Eric Sheninger’s book does a great job of providing case studies of educational administrators who successfully use technology to transform their schools. The case studies cover all levels of schools including elementary, middle, and high school. They come from diverse parts of the country including urban, suburban, and rural communities. Several important principles stand out and can be applied to any school administrator’s job. First, digital leaders must lead by example and must be willing to do so in a very public and transparent manner. Next, digital leaders must continue to be lifelong learners who continually hone their skills as technology changes. Finally, digital leaders must make use of the vast amount of resources available to them through PLNs and on the Internet.

A Timely, Practical, and Innovative Read for the Modern Leader
By Bruce Arcurio
Eric Sheninger has created a road map to effectively traverse the digital landscape for the modern educational leader. I gave the book 5 stars because it was filled with practical ideas that I could take back to my school and implement not only when I finished the book, but as I was reading it! Each of the pillars of digital leadership that Eric discusses in the book comes with real-life anecdotes of school leaders who are employing them. This is key because often with leadership books it is easy to simply write your own story and this can be limiting because it is hard to tell if the strategies will translate to other school settings. In this book, Eric discusses how he has leveraged the pillars for his school and provides examples of other leaders who have done the same. The book is written in down to earth language that explains the research and theory behind the best practices while making it accessible to the busy school leader. It does not feel like a heavy read, although the content is very powerful. I would recommend this book to any leader wishing to move schools forward in the modern age. I think that it should become a staple on any leader's bookshelf (or in their eReader).

Leading in the Digital Age
By Zeina Chalich
School leaders today must establish a vision and implement a strategic process that creates a teaching and learning culture providing students with essential skill sets – creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, technological proficiency and global awareness – commonly referred to as 21st-century skills to operate in the society in which they live and for jobs that have not yet been created.
Consistent innovation, effective integration of technology, meaningful professional development, connecting beyond the walls of school and an open mind are all mandatory duties of a leader in the digital age. These duties are identified and explored by Eric Sheninger – a.k.a. Principal Twitter – in his book Digital Leadership: Changing paradigms for changing times.
Sheninger presents a framework for leaders to harness the power of digital technologies in order to create school cultures that are transparent, relevant, meaningful, engaging and inspiring. He defines Digital Leadership as “establishing direction, influencing others, initiating sustainable change through the access to information, and establishing relationships in order to anticipate changes pivotal to school success in the future”.
The 7 Pillars of Digital Leadership are specific areas embedded in the culture of all schools that can be improved or enhanced through the use of technology, especially social media. Here is an overview of the pillars with some practical examples I've learnt from reading this book, to start leading more effectively in the digital age http://aussieed.com/7-pillars-of-digital-leadership/
Digital Leadership is more than a ‘how to’ guide but rather a relevant and practical focused framework that provides realistic recommendations not only centred on the need for change but also on how to sustain it. This book is a MUST read for all professionals working in education from primary schools to universities - leadership is action, not position. The call to action is strong and the time is now!
