It is amazing how such a small book can elicit so many emotions from the reader as Ms. Jax vividly relates the deeper understandings she has formed as a result of her travels both here in the USA and her many trips abroad. Ms. Jax eloquently expresses her deeply felt observations of the cultures of which she is writing. It is clear that things are not always the way the powers that be would like one to perceive them. It is also clear that these travels have resulted in a deeper search for understanding herself through time. I highly recommend you read this book to see the world through one travelers eyes. You will be surprised at what you discover.

This little work, so much more than a book about travel, reflects and reveals many deep personal insights about the author's psyche. There are physical places described, of course, some far off and some nearer by. Some are magnificent and others vile and dangerous, but all are seen and depicted in the author's gentle, vivid and eloquent style. It is a journey of self, presented as a parallel process in the author's reflections about the countries and places she has visited. Throughout her journeys, she peers deeply into her own soul to make sense of what she observes in the context of who she is and who she has become.

On trips taken for business or with no purpose other than to explore, there is a deep and poetic nostalgia evident for old experiences and for relationships lost, and an enduring sadness and longing for a love that can no longer be and for a child that was never born. Along the way, the author observes humanity and inhumanity, inequities among nations and people and the further oppression of the already downtrodden. But there is also joy, insight, satisfaction and acknowledgement, buttressed by the author's own struggle for gender congruence. Lest one think this short work is depressing, it is not. It stands as a realistic lament that although life has moved on and taken the bloom, dreams and hopes of youth, it still holds the hopeful promise of many good journeys to come.

The Soulful Traveler is this summer's MUST READ. Rene Jax will take you on a journey through exotic places around the world and expose you to the gentler side of human nature. As i joined Rene on her expedition to these great locations, I found myself lost in thought of my own journeys through this place called "Life". When I came upon the last page, I was sad that this brief moment of reflection was ending. I am hopeful that Rene will take time in the near future to create another masterpiece for her dedicated followers.

To the untrained eye, this book may seem like your every day informational guide. I found it to be an intriguing and fact filled book that truly helped me to understand the holes in my email security.

I appreciate the "review" at the end of each chapter, going through everything that was learned previously. It made it very easy to build upon the information that I was getting. Have eagerly awaited this work. A brilliant exposition of the relevance of Henri Corbin's worldview for our dying culture. The world is in the soul, not the soul in the world. The complete trilogy is a survey of how we have come to this impasse, and offers the beginning of a means of an escape. The texts of the three Abramanic faiths as a theophany not a prison. So glad I can visit the cement ship anytime I want!

I hope to be able to visit the cement ship for a long time to come. Having the good fortune to live in Seacliff and being personally involved with the person who was responsible (Rose Costa) for having the cement ship refurbished after the floods of 82-83 is a great honor. Unfortunately, Rose passed away last year and the ship is in need of repair again. The state parks have no money, so they say, and I am trying with other people (Friends of Rose) to pick up where Rose left off. The book was delightfully enlightening of the S S Palo Alto's history!

It is very frustrating when I come up with the right answer and then waste one after hour trying to figure out what I did wrong! I can't rely on the practice exercises because I never know if I'm wrong or the book. I never knew it was possible for a book that costs this much to have SO MANY MISTAKES. If you charge students that much, can't you pay someone to verify that so this book can be reliable?? And by the way, I know that the book is wrong because I asked a tutor and my professor to take a look and confirm. So I'm not just blaming my mistakes on the book. This book was required for my course so I had no choice.

Here is a textbook that I actually read for the class. Many students struggled in my inorganic chemistry 2 class and I got an A by actually reading and doing the homework problems. My professor used the powerpoints that are included by the publisher and although it is the same material as the textbook, as expected, they are condensed. The textbook gives the full story and gives practical examples. The practical examples were very interesting to me and its these examples that makes students actually know **practical** things when they leave college.

Way too wordy, font was way too small it gave me a headache just to read it. the older version is much better, just rent that one instead of this one.

About the Author
Dr. Frank Kreith is a Professor Emeritus in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He received his Ph.D. in Applied Science from the University of Paris in 1965. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), a Fellow and Honorary Member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and recipient of the ASME Medal. The ASME International established "The Frank Kreith Energy Award" in 2005 in recognition of his contributions to the field of renewable energy and heat transfer. His areas of interest include heat transfer, thermal engineering, and solar engineering. He has been a consultant in the field of heat transfer engineering in many parts of the world.

It's a good book, but it has room for improvements

It's a good book, but it has room for improvements. It has no answer to the problems at the end of the chapters, I think that at least a few of the problems should have the answer. And my copy of the book had some problem in the printing process. In the middle of chapter 6, there are about 10 pages that are not supposed to be there. They are from a complete different section of the book.

Nice Supplement to Valuation

I hate buying textbooks for class, but this is the one textbook that i'm going to keep after class. It is more like a handbook as it contains an incredible amount of useful information on valuation. WACC, ROIC, EP, DCF it is all here the list could go on and on and ..... The workbook gets you tuned into the finer points that can get lost in the regular text. Reading the workbook questions makes you say "oh, that's what they were talking about." This book is extremely helpful if your teacher gives you a 100 true/false question test as my teacher did. Overall a great supplement to the valuation book. However, the book seems to contain some errors such as the broken out ROIC formula. In the main text it is listed differently than what is in the workbook. Not so helpful when trying to study for a test.

How to reach Long Term Goals

Often text books on Finance and Accounting are filled to the brim with Theory. Theory has it's place, but it will not help you perform well in real wourld Accounting and Finance positions. Often books lack detail or the math to fully explain issues. This book lacks neither. It is an excellent read and must have for Accounting/Finance students who want relevant information for real world valuation.

I bought this book together with The Four Cornerstones of Corporate Finance and Valuation: Measuring and Managing the Value of Companies, 5th Edition. I think you only really need this workbook together with The Four Cornerstones of Corporate Finance (which is basically a well summarised and much more succinct version of Valuation: Measuring and Managing the Value of Companies, 5th Edition - so I would skip the Valuation book)
Together they give you an excellent understanding the the PE world and valuing companies.
