Well Written and Informative Commentary

This book was the required text for a college course I took for studying the life and teachings of Christ. The first 200 pages of his book are dedicated to introducing the reader to the setting, customs, times, and background of the land where Jesus lived and people he interacted with. While agreement with all the points made by Foster is left to the interpretation of the reader, he is exceedingly thorough in his research and commentary, as is shown by the sheer number of pages the book contains. His explanations do not leave the reader wanting for more as he covers in detail a wide range of topics that the reader may not have even considered. His style of writing makes an easy read of the nearly 1,400 page book. As a Biblical Studies major, Christian, researcher, and just an inquisitive reader, this is one book I am happy to add to my small collection of great Biblical commentary books.

This is a great commentary that covers just what you'd think it would. It also contains solid refutation of a number of false notions out their about the origins of the gospel message. White Men are Evil.

This book goes to the heart of what is wrong with this country. I am an adult (40+) taking college classes online. This book is poorly printed; try highlighting and the ink smears. Also, the author repeatedly quotes studies conducted by her favorite researcher; HERSELF!!! The author is a Professor (I assume with tenure) at a university in San Francisco. BOOK SUMMARY: White men (excuse me, Euro-American males) are evil. Republicans hate minorities and poor people. If you send your children to college, you should read this book. As managers, we should have different standards for each individual based on their race and sex as we are all different and should all be granted "special" consideration. This book hurts legitimate diversity programs. Ridiculous drivel!!!

How can there be so many grammatical errors in the 8TH edition!?

I must agree with one of the other reviewers in regard to the abundance of grammatical errors. It mystifies me how there could be so many errors in this - the 8th edition - of a book! In addition to grammatical errors there are frequent repeating sentences. For example the author may end one paragraph with a sentence, and then the next paragraph begins with the same sentence...this is not a transition! The content itself is very thorough - perhaps overly thorough, especially in the excessive number of statistics. Statistics stop being useful when perhaps four pages of a thirty page chapter are literally bullet-point lists of statistics. Overall, I believe I am learning from this book, but am certain there are a dozen other books that can do a better job in a more concise way. Perhaps edition 9 will be the lucky number?

The Space Shuttle In Words And Pictures

Many of us thrilled at the accomplishments of the Space Shuttle program and mourned its tragedies and would appreciate a look back at its history. If you are one of those, find a comfortable chair, maybe on your porch or by your fire, pour your favorite drink and open “The Space Shuttle: Celebrating Thirty Years of Nasa’s First Space Plane”.

Its seven “stages” each begin with a narrative explaining that particular phase of the program, its inception, development, and closure, its crossroads, its highs and lows, its accomplishments and its lost heroes. After the introduction each stage contains a summary of every shuttle mission with dates, orbiter, crew and significant missions.

The most enticing feature of this book is its pictures. The cover shows the orbiter with its open cargo bay and Canada Arm silhouetted against earth and space. On page after page we see equipment and crew, rockets and orbiter, launches and landings, life aboard and space walks, space stations and satellites and incredible blues and whites and stark black.

Author Piers Bizony has created a work that will rekindle memories and introduce us to details that had slid by as we lived our lives and while the shuttle explored overhead. It took me back to the day when a friend suggested that we have lunch at Charlie’s with its big screen television to watch the first landing, and an awesome sight it was. About the Author
Russell Crandall is a Professor of International Politics and American Foreign Policy at Davidson College. His previous books include The United States and Latin America after the Cold War (Cambridge, 2008); Gunboat Democracy: US Interventions in the Dominican Republic, Grenada, and Panama (2006); and Driven by Drugs: US Policy Toward Colombia (2008). Interwoven with his academic career, Crandall has held high-level foreign policy appointments within several sectors of the US government, including the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Office of the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon and the National Security Council at the White House.

A helpful survey of pilgrimage in world religions

The concept of 'Pilgrimage' is a universal one common to all the religions. As an outward expression of one's inner faith such sacred journeys are encourged in all the religions. This ritual also offers layers of meaning for an earnest pilgrim. The authors attempt successsfully to trace the origin and development of the theology and practice of such pilgrimages in the different world religions like Judaism, Islam, Christianity and Hinduism. A separate chapter is devoted most appropriately, to the Indian religions. A student would find the book very valuable and a pilgrim would be fascinated by the information. The book is illustrated with beautiful photographs from various parts of the world.

Worthwhile advice from an expert.

This book is for designers, not really for engineers. You will get valuable information from the author, who worked on parking projects for a career. I picked up some very valuable design tips, which I passed on to the design team. I'm providing the engineering, so the value to me was a bit less.
However, I was glad to find several of my recommendations covered in this book as best practice recommendations.
Each chapter is stand alone written. So, you can peruse the chapters, then read what is relevant to you.
I would like to see this updated. And, this would make a good ebook.

About the Author
Katherine Paterson has written numerous children's book including Lyddie,�The Tale of the Mandarin Ducks,�and�Jip, His Story. Her books�have received much acclaim and been published world-wide. Among her many literary honors are two Newbery Medals and two National Book Awards.�She received the 1998 Hans Christian Andersen Medal as well as the 2006 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for the body of her work. She lives with her husband, John, in Barre, Vermont. They have four children and seven grandchildren.

What the book is about and what I liked.

Lyddie is a book about a young girl facing obstacles while working in a mill, trying to earn money to keep her family's barn and reunite her family. My favorite thing about this book is that as the story unravels, Lyddie becomes an inspiring character. In spite of overwhelming odds, she manages to find a measure of independence, happiness, and education which she has yearned for.This book deals with working conditions, child labor, and sexual harassment. Katherine Paterson allows readers to learn how the life of a female young adult working in the mills would be like back in that era. I read this book back in 7th grade and I suggest kids who are in the 7th grade NOW to read it.

This is a wonderful book to introduce young people today to "how it was" in an earlier time. Katherine Paterson brings a young girl to life who is determined, smart, and who has a steadfast work ethic. You want to cry when she is separated from her family to work, and at the same time admire her and laugh with joy at her ability to defend herself and continue to hope for her family to be together again. My Grandma was a weaver back in the early 1900's, and I read a chapter of this to her each week. She loved it, too. It's a book I've given to all of my nieces, as well.

It is part of the NYS common core curriculum, and I am reading it to 7th grade boys - the best review I can give it is they were enthralled as I read the first chapter to them! I read the whole book and I loved it! It's a captivating story that keeps you wondering throughout if she will ever get her family back together.

About the Author

Hans Degryse is professor of financial intermediation and markets at CentER - Tilburg University in the Netherlands and a CESIfo research fellow. He holds the TILEC-AFM Chair on Financial Market Regulation. His research interests include empirical and theoretical banking, market microstructure, and financial systems.

Moshe Kim is professor of economics, University of Haifa, Israel and currently at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona Spain. He is founder and co-director of the Barcelona Banking Summer School (BBSS) at the Barcelona Graduate School. His research interests include firm-bank relationships, imperfect banking competition, and financial systems.
Steven Ongena is professor in empirical banking at CentER - Tilburg University in the Netherlands and a CEPR research fellow in financial economics. He is a member of TILEC, a NAKE and CFS fellow, a steering committee member of the ECB-CFS Research Network, and an associate editor of the Journal of Financial Services Research. His research interests include firm-bank relationships, bank mergers and acquisitions, and financial systems.
